My Lydia was born! We were getting ready for Church and I lost my mucus plug while in the shower and I wasn't sure if my water had broken along with it or not so after a quick call in to the OB on call we headed in to the hospital. After a very tearful goodbye to Sammy (my tears not his! :) ) as the Martin's graciously took him in for the week, the maternity triage team did several tests on me...plug gone, water bag still in tact...dang it! :) The resident was going to recommend that I go home to continue to wait as I progressed, but my OB (Doc Z...gotta love him!) decided to put me on the monitor just for kicks and giggles (his words). Well, apparently I was in full blown labor and hadn't the first clue that I was having strong, consistent contractions! So, the decided to admit me after all. YAY! By the time they got me checked into the Labor and Delivery Room I had already progressed to 3cm but wasn't very "effaced" so Doc Z recommended cytotec to help "ripen" me up. Wow...that brought on the contractions...I did eventually opt for the epi...mostly for fear of having full anesthetics should C-section be necessary (It wasn't praise God!) and after the epi I stalled a bit so they started a pitocin drip to keep things rolling. I got sort of tired and decided I wanted to close my eyes for a few minutes, but not five minutes after I did, the nurses came running in all frazzled because the baby's heart rate was becoming irregular...after shifting me around and it not having an effect, someone decided maybe they should check my progress. Full ten and ready to go! So, after we got the ok to start pushing, the very GREEN nurse was so cute (she was soooo excited) she even had Chanda help her get her scrubs on! LOL Well, twenty minutes of productive pushing and she was out! (My Doc had been trying new hair styles on her as she crowned). My beautiful cone headed princess made a squalling debut!
